Household Waste Recycling Sites – update
The range of items accepted at Household Waste Recycling Sites (HWRSs) across West Sussex has been extended to include all waste streams, with minor exceptions, as laid out below:
- Soil and hardcore will be accepted at all sites with the exception of Bognor, Midhurst and Westhampnett.
- Plasterboard can be deposited at Billingshurst, Burgess Hill, Crawley, Horsham, Littlehampton, Shoreham and Worthing.
- Asbestos can be taken to Burgess Hill, Crawley and Worthing
Trailers will permitted at Crawley, Billingshurst and Worthing, but only on weekday afternoons from 1pm – 6pm , due to the operational changes being made to sites in order for them to access safely. However, trailers will not be accepted at the other sites for the time being, nor can they enter these three sites at weekends or on weekday mornings.
Residents who wish to take a van, pickup truck or trailer must also display the appropriate free permit, further details of which can be found online.

Don’t forget your ID…
Residents are required to show one of the forms of ID detailed below at the entrance, in order to use the site. Access to the sites will be denied if proof of residency is not shown, or you live outside of West Sussex, with turning areas provided for those who are not able to use the site.
Only original and printed paper copies are acceptable. Allowing the use of digital copies of documents was considered but it was felt that the potential issues, such as lack of internet connection, could result in traffic congestion. |
